Privacy policy
This page explains what happens to your information when you use this website. It is short, because very little happens to it.
Who is responsible
This site is run by Gary Davis, trading as G. J. Davis, in Bourne, Lincolnshire. If you have any question about your information, or want it deleted, contact me using the details on the contact page and I will deal with it.
What is collected
When you send a message through the contact form, I keep what you typed: your name, your phone number and email address if you gave them, which service you selected, and your message. I also record the internet (IP) address the message was sent from and the browser it was sent with, which is used only to block floods of automated junk, and is deleted automatically after 90 days.
When you simply read a page, the web server records the request in a log: the address of your device, the page requested, the time, and the browser you used. These logs are kept for a short period and are used to keep the site running and secure.
There is no analytics on this site, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no social media buttons that report back, and no cookies at all unless you sign in to the admin — which only I can do.
What it is used for
Your enquiry is used to reply to you and to quote for the work. That is the only purpose. It is never sold, never shared for marketing, and never passed to anybody else except where a job genuinely requires it — for example, giving your address to a Gas Safe engineer working with me on your kitchen, which I would tell you about first.
The lawful basis is that handling your enquiry is a step you have asked me to take before entering into a contract, and that I have a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and in keeping records of the work I have quoted for.
How long it is kept
Enquiries are kept while they may still be useful — a quote you might come back to, or a record of work done. IP addresses attached to them are blanked after 90 days. Junk messages caught by the spam filter are deleted after 30 days.
Where it is kept
On a server rented from Linode, in London. Backups are kept on the same server and are encrypted at rest by the hosting provider. Email notifications about enquiries pass through the mail provider used for the business's email.
Your rights
You can ask me for a copy of what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Just get in touch. If you are not happy with how I have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
The public pages of this site set no cookies. Signing in to the administration area sets two, one to keep you signed in and one to protect forms against cross-site request forgery; both are essential to it working and neither is used for tracking.
